When history looks back on Joe Biden’s presidency, it may well consider him one of the most consequential U.S. presidents since George Washington. Biden’s ability to pass significant legislation on multiple fronts and his success in reinvigorating U.S. leadership on the global stage is nothing short of remarkable.

Biden’s legislative achievements are numerous and impactful. His American Rescue Plan provided crucial COVID-19 relief, supporting struggling families, businesses, and healthcare systems during the pandemic. The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is set to revitalize America’s crumbling infrastructure, promising new roads, bridges, and broadband expansion. Additionally, the Inflation Reduction Act aims to address climate change and healthcare costs, showcasing Biden’s commitment to long-term sustainable growth and the well-being of all Americans.

On the international stage, Biden has restored faith in U.S. leadership. After a period marked by isolationist policies and strained alliances, Biden’s administration has re-engaged with key global institutions and allies. His approach to international diplomacy, particularly in addressing climate change and rejoining the Paris Agreement, has reasserted the U.S. as a pivotal player on the world stage. His handling of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, including rallying NATO allies and imposing sanctions, demonstrated a strong and unified Western response.

However, not all has been smooth sailing. One of Biden’s most significant international missteps has been his inability to stop the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This failure underscores the complexities of U.S. Middle East policy, often influenced by powerful lobbying groups like AIPAC. The U.S.’s unwavering support for the Israeli government, sometimes at the expense of broader diplomatic efforts, has not only led to a humanitarian crisis in Gaza but also hurt both U.S. interests and the Jewish community worldwide. Such a stance often alienates potential allies and undermines the principles of international law and human rights that the U.S. purports to uphold.

Looking forward, Biden’s efforts could pave the way for a new era of American leadership, potentially securing the U.S.’s role in global affairs for generations. If Vice President Kamala Harris succeeds him, it would set a new standard globally. As the first woman and first Black leader of the United States, Harris’s presidency would be a historic milestone. Her ascent to the highest office would send a powerful message against the forces of racism, nativism, and right-wing Christian nationalism that have been gaining ground in recent years.

Harris’s presidency would not only break the highest glass ceiling but also symbolize the progress and inclusiveness that Biden’s administration has championed. It would be a major blow to those who have sought to divide the nation along racial, ethnic, and ideological lines. Her leadership could inspire similar movements worldwide, demonstrating that diversity and inclusion are strengths rather than weaknesses.

Joe Biden’s presidency might just mark the beginning of a renewed American century, echoing the foundational impact George Washington had in his time. His ability to navigate domestic and international challenges with a steady hand and a clear vision for the future positions him as a leader of historic significance. Biden stepping away and enabling Harris to take the reins is as pivotal as Washington’s decision to step down and allow for democratic elections, resisting calls to become a monarch. With Kamala Harris poised to continue this legacy, the future looks promising for an America that leads with unity, progress, and justice for all.
